Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has articulated his reliance on divine guidance for selecting his appointees should he return to office. Speaking recently, Mahama disclosed that his prayers have been focused on obtaining the spirit of discernment to choose the right individuals for his administration.
Mahama shared insights from a conversation with his father, who advised him on the necessity of selecting capable and well-intentioned individuals to assist in governing the nation. “My father advised me that I cannot handle the country alone, so I have to select people to support me in administering the country, and so I should choose people who have a good heart and have the interest of the Ghanaian people at heart,” he remarked.
Acknowledging the human limitations in understanding others’ true intentions, Mahama emphasized the challenge of leadership selection. “As a human, it is impossible to open the head of a human to know what the person is thinking and it is impossible to open the heart of a human to know what their emotions are,” he stated, underscoring his reliance on spiritual guidance.
He expressed his prayer for wisdom and discernment, saying, “I pray that God gives me the sense of wisdom and discernment to be able to choose the right people to join me to be able to create economic prosperity for the people of Ghana, and so I thank you very much.”
Mahama also touched on his victory in the 2024 election, framing it as a testament to Ghana’s robust democratic system. “On his victory in the 2024 election, he indicated that it is a win for the country, as it has for another time proven to have a strong democracy,” highlighting the collective achievement of the nation in maintaining democratic integrity.
