In a remarkable display of intellectual prowess, 13-year-old Melchizedek Adio Baafawiise from Ghana’s Savannah Region has shattered records by becoming one of the youngest students ever to be admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
This physics enthusiast has not only scored an impressive 5 As and 3 Bs in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) but is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. His journey has captured the imagination of many across social media, particularly trending on X this Saturday.
From Pilot Dreams to Physics Prodigy
Originally, Melchizedek harbored dreams of becoming a pilot, but his path took a turn towards physics, which he believes offers broader opportunities for exploration. “If you understand the basic principles of physics, you can apply it to other fields, such as Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, and that would give me a solid base to begin,” he shared in an interview.
While his future career remains open between Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Melchizedek is keen on exploring these possibilities through his current academic journey at KNUST.
Adjusting to University Life
Despite his young age, Melchizedek has found the transition to university life smooth. “Well, the interaction has been normal, and it has been good. When I went to SHS, I felt intimidated because of my age, but as time went on, I became used to it. Being here, where people are older than me, doesn’t make much difference,” he remarked, showcasing a maturity and adaptability beyond his years.
His story not only highlights his personal achievements but also sets a new benchmark for academic excellence and ambition in Ghana, inspiring countless young minds to pursue their dreams with vigor.
