Ohene Kwame Frimpong, a 38-year-old Ghanaian MP representing the Asante-Akyem North constituency, was arrested in Manchester on August 18, 2025, following an alleged domestic assault. The Independent MP, currently serving in Ghana’s Parliament, is accused of physically assaulting his ex-wife, Nana Afriyie, during a confrontation over their two daughters.According to sources, the incident occurred after Frimpong visited his children, aged seven and eight, for the first time since a court-imposed ban on contact was lifted on July 22, 2025. The altercation reportedly began when Afriyie confronted Frimpong about comments he made to their children. Sources claim Frimpong, accompanied by another woman in his car, became embroiled in a heated exchange that escalated into violence, leaving Afriyie severely injured. Police and ambulance services were called to the scene, and Afriyie was rushed to a hospital’s intensive care unit for treatment.Frimpong and Afriyie, married in 2016 and divorced in April 2023, have faced ongoing co-parenting disputes. Tensions reportedly heightened earlier this year when Frimpong allegedly attempted to take their daughters to Ghana without Afriyie’s consent, leading to his interception at Heathrow Airport in what authorities described as a child trafficking case. The children were returned to Afriyie, their primary carer, and social services imposed strict custody conditions, including a temporary ban on Frimpong’s contact with his children and ex-wife.Frimpong was initially detained at Swinton Police Station but has since been released on bail pending a court appearance. Further details are expected as the case develops.
