The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of four individuals in connection with the murder of the Akwamuhene of Tanoso, a traditional chief in the Bono East Region. The suspects are currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations, while authorities pursue additional persons of interest.
In a press release issued today by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police identified the arrested suspects as Issifu Addae, alias Akwasi Addae; Stephen Gyamfi; Augustine Arhinful; and Martha Mansah. Four other individuals have been named as persons of interest and are being actively sought by law enforcement.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased chief was destooled as the Akwamuhene of Tanoso, a decision he reportedly rejected. This led to multiple litigations and disputes involving the chief and his family, which investigators believe may be linked to the motive behind the killing.
“The four suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations,” the statement read. “Meanwhile, police have intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects to face the full rigours of the law.”
The press release was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawao, Public Relations Officer for the CID.
The murder has sparked concerns over chieftaincy disputes in the region, highlighting ongoing tensions that have historically led to violence. Police have urged the public to provide any information that could aid in apprehending the remaining suspects.
Authorities assure that the investigation is progressing and have committed to ensuring justice for the victim. Further updates are expected as the case develops.
