Hudson, FL – A 61-year-old man, Craig Vogt, faces a third-degree felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty following his arrest on September 23, 2025. Authorities say Vogt killed, cooked, and ate two of his pet peacocks in a dispute with a neighbor. The incident unfolded after a verbal altercation over the neighbor feeding the birds, prompting Vogt to act out of spite. He left a letter in the neighbor’s mailbox detailing how he slit the peacocks’ necks, bled them out, and fried them to “prove a point,” while also threatening to kill his remaining birds. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody, and during transport to jail, Vogt reportedly admitted his intent to eliminate the rest of his peacocks. The case has sparked outrage in the community, with the investigation ongoing.
