Ex-GIIF CEO Granted GHS15m Bail in $2m Sky Train Fiasco 2

Solomon Asamoah, former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has been granted bail of GHS15 million by the Accra High Court (Criminal Division) on May 13, 2025, in connection with the controversial $2 million Accra Sky Train project. The bail requires two sureties justified with landed property in Accra, and Asamoah must surrender his Ghanaian and British passports while reporting to investigators three times a week.Asamoah pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, and intentional dissipation of public funds, stemming from a $2 million payment made in 2019 to Africa Investor Holdings Limited for a Sky Train project that was never built. The payment, allegedly unauthorized by the GIIF board, was made alongside former GIIF board chairman Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, who was absent in court due to recent surgery and will have his plea taken on May 20.The Attorney General’s Office claims the payment lacked proper approval, with investigations revealing the recipient company in Mauritius may not exist. Asamoah’s defense argued he is not a flight risk, citing his voluntary return to Ghana and role as a caregiver to his elderly mother. The case, which has drawn significant public and political scrutiny, continues to unfold as part of broader investigations into the failed Sky Train project, initially touted as a transformative urban transport initiative under the previous NPP government.
