The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has made a significant arrest at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), uncovering a large-scale attempt to smuggle cannabis into Ghana.
A British national, who arrived from Thailand via Emirates flight EK 787 through Dubai, was intercepted during a routine inspection. Security officials discovered two suitcases filled with 92 slabs of cannabis, weighing a total of 53.60 kilograms.
The suspect was not alone in the operation—two Ghanaians, believed to be accomplices, were also arrested. One is reported to be a customs officer, while the other works as a porter in the airport’s Commercially Important Person (CIP) section. They are suspected of helping facilitate the contraband’s passage through airport security.
All three individuals are currently in the custody of NACOC as investigations continue into the attempted smuggling operation.
