Ghanaian highlife music legend Dada KD, born Dada Kweku Duah, has tragically passed away after an ordeal in which he was transported to three different hospitals before receiving medical attention. His manager, King Pee, disclosed the heartbreaking details during an interview on Peace 104.3 FM’s “Entertainment Review” on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Emergency Response Delays
According to King Pee, Dada KD was found unconscious at his Dansoman home by an associate who immediately sought help. A taxi driver who frequently assisted the musician was called to transport him to the hospital. However, their efforts were met with frustration as they visited two medical facilities that did not have a doctor available. It was only at Gbawe Government Hospital that they finally found a physician—but sadly, Dada KD was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“A lady who helps him at home heard he fell down and rushed to the room to find him unconscious and unresponsive. So she called a taxi driver who usually transports Dada KD around when his car isn’t working, and they rushed him to the hospital. They had to visit three hospitals before they found a doctor at the last hospital, which was the Gbawe Government Hospital,” King Pee narrated.
Why Was Korle-Bu Not Considered?
In the interview, veteran journalist Kwesi Aboagye questioned why Dada KD was not taken to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s premier medical facility, which is closer to Dansoman than Gbawe. King Pee explained that the decision was based on privacy concerns—those assisting the musician opted for a private facility to avoid media attention.
Shockwaves in the Music Industry
The passing of Dada KD has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in for the beloved musician. Known for his soulful ballads, captivating performances, and timeless hits like “Odo Mu Anigye” and “Ebeboawo”, Dada KD was one of the most recognized figures in Ghanaian highlife music.
Despite appearing fit and healthy in the days leading up to his death, media personality Nana Romeo revealed that Dada KD had been battling financial, emotional, and psychological challenges in recent years. His struggles, though largely unknown to the public, may have contributed to his untimely demise.
