Customs officers allegedly beat up the ‘wrong man’ over theft allegations

An innocent civilian who was accused of stealing was allegedly brutalized by certain members of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

GhanaWeb discovered a popular video that showed the officers instructing individuals to sit on the ground after they exited a white pickup truck.

They chose one individual and began beating him up from among this group.

The event, as described by the man in the video that looked to be from a CCTV camera, allegedly took place at the Paradise resort near the Linda Dor restaurant in Nsutam in the Eastern Region.

He claimed that the about 5 customs officers seen in the video are from the Nsutam office of customs.

The narrator, who gave his name as Kwaku Adu, claimed that the police arrived in Paradise after receiving a report from a man claiming to have been robbed by a person driving a black car.

“Without asking him any questions, they began beating up a young man who was beside a black car as soon as they arrived on the scene. The man arrived at the location to meet with the daughter of Paradise’s owner.

“When the police arrived, they ordered everyone to sit on the ground and enquired as to whose automobile it was. The man claimed it belonged to him.

He continued by saying that all of their efforts to bring about justice for the victim had failed. He requested assistance for the young man, who he claimed is still disabled as a result of the beatings he received, from officials who had watched the video.
