A Ghanaian court has ruled in favor of gospel singer Empress Gifty in her long-running defamation lawsuit against controversial televangelist Nana Agradaa (Patricia Asiedu), ordering Agradaa to pay GH₵100,000 in damages.
The decision, reported widely across local media and social platforms today, stems from findings that Agradaa made false and damaging statements about Empress Gifty that harmed the singer’s reputation. The case originated from a series of public allegations and live broadcasts by Agradaa in 2025, which prompted Empress Gifty to file a GH₵20 million defamation suit at the Tema High Court in May 2025.
Key developments in the feud included an earlier court ruling in June 2025, where Agradaa’s application to dismiss the case was rejected, and she was ordered to pay GH₵6,000 in costs for procedural delays. Despite Agradaa’s subsequent 15-year prison sentence in a separate fraud case, the defamation proceedings continued.
In late 2025, Agradaa issued a public apology and retraction through her legal team, describing some statements as made “in the spur of the moment.” This led to an out-of-court settlement discussion, where Empress Gifty’s side—represented in part by her husband, politician Hopeson Adorye—initially sought coverage of approximately GH₵150,000 in legal fees. Reports indicate Agradaa agreed to pay GH₵100,000 toward these costs, with partial payment already received.
Today’s court directive appears to formalize or align with that agreed amount as damages for the defamation itself. Multiple credible outlets, including GHOne TV, Starr FM, and Dennislaw News, confirmed the ruling on January 20, 2026, with announcements spreading rapidly on social media.
The case highlights ongoing tensions between the two public figures, which began with heated exchanges on social media and escalated into legal battles. Neither party has issued an immediate public comment on the latest ruling, but it brings a significant chapter in their dispute to a close, though potential appeals remain possible.
Empress Gifty, known for her music and media appearances, and Agradaa, the founder of Heaven’s Way Chapel, have both maintained large followings despite the controversies.
