The Church of Pentecost appoints first Fulani pastor into full-time ministry

Probationary Overseer Abubakar Diallo Sulemana was commissioned into the full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost on Friday, making him the first Fulani minister in the history of the Church.

The historic moment took place at a commissioning service for the 2021/22 batch of ministerial students held at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.

Having been commissioned, P/Overseer Diallo and his wife, Mariam Diallo Sulemana, are now set for Nkwanta, where they would be stationed to serve God and the Church as the Home and Urban Missions (HUM) Pastor for the Volta & Oti sector.

This refreshing news adds to the growing list of successes chalked by the Church under the five-year strategic vision of “Possessing the Nations,” dubbed “Vision 2023,” which birthed the Home and Urban Missions, among other ministries.

Through HUM, the Church is seeking to win and disciple the marginalised, unreached and unengaged people groups, such as the Fulani community, with the unadulterated word of God, giving them hope and transforming them into positive change agents for their communities. This venture has since yielded tremendous results in the Fulani community in particular.

Considered one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, the Fulanis (Fulbes) are a Muslim-dominated community with a population of about 40,000,000 in more than 20 countries.

“In our bid to ‘possess the nations,’ we cannot leave out the Fulani community with such a huge number. Fulanis are marginalised in most countries and seem to have conflicts with most indigenous people across Africa. HUM is, therefore, seeking to intentionally and strategically reach out to them,” Apostle Kwafo, the National HUM Coordinator, shared in an interview.

According to the National Coordinator, HUM has led more than 1,000 Fulanis to Christ in the last three years.

“As we speak, we have many Fulani converts as members of The Church of Pentecost; some of whom are ordained officers of the Church,” he said, adding that: “We keep recording these success stories because God has gone ahead of us in the ‘Possessing the Nations’ agenda,”

P/Overseer Sulemana served as a Field Assistant for the Home and Urban Mission before his call into full-time ministry last year.

Apostle Kwafo said their paths crossed when P/Overseer Diallo, then a Muslim turned Christian, was moving from Ghana to neighbouring Burkina to fellowship with a Fulani Church there.

Through the recommendation and help of a friend, Apostle Kwafo got in touch with Diallo, as he is affectionately called, and decided to bring him on board.

“After our meeting, we encouraged him to join The Church of Pentecost and created a space in the Church for him where he felt a sense of belonging. We also took him through discipleship and training to equip him to be effective in worship and service to God,” he said.

Apostle Agyei Kwafo believes that P/Overseer Diallo’s association with The Church of Pentecost is no coincidence but a divine orchestration since, through him, the Church has made significant inroads in the Muslim-dominated community with the gospel of Christ.

“Diallo joined at the right time when Vision 2023 was categorically intentional to reach out to the Fulani community,” he remarked.

Speaking to PENTECOST NEWS on the sidelines of the commissioning service, P/Overseer Sulemana expressed gratitude to God and the leadership of the Church for the investment made in him since he joined The Church of Pentecost.

He said the ministerial training has made him a better Christian and equipped him for a holistic ministry.

“I used to be more comfortable dealing with my people (Fulbes). However, through this training, I have become more confident and can now engage non-Fulbes. I have also learned more about the Church from my colleagues. This has been very helpful, especially since I was not born into The Church of Pentecost,” he said.

P/Overseer Diallo is poised for the task ahead and now feels adequately prepared for the work of the ministry.

“I am very grateful that God chose The Church of Pentecost to be the channel through which the gospel would reach my people, and I could not be more honored to be part of this story,” he said.

The newly-commissioned ministers, 127 in all, comprise 115 Ghanaians and 12 others from nine different countries (Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Gambia, India, Cape Verde, and Madagascar)

The new ministers have successfully completed the first phase of their ministerial formation course at the School of Theology, Mission, and Leadership (STML) of Pentecost University.

Despite the difficulties, we have demonstrated our capacity for governance — Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president of Ghana, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) track record in resolving issues in Ghana is unsurpassed under the Fourth Republic.
He realizes that the nation is currently going through a difficult time, but he is confident that with the New Patriotic Party government’s leadership, they will overcome all obstacles.

This was stated by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in his speech at the ongoing election for National Delegates.

“Yes, we are a government that solves problems! These are only a few of the issues that transformative policies have helped us to resolve, he added.

“We certainly haven’t solved every problem, but no party in the fourth republic can equal our record as the NPP when we were in power,” they continued. Period”

“We have demonstrated the capacity to solve problems and I am confident that even though the road ahead is rough given the global economic crisis, we shall solve the existing problems with hard work and innovative policies,” he said further.

Adwoa Safo communicates with party representatives in the US

Despite not attending the 2022 delegates convention, Sarah Adwoa Safo, the member of parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, still has the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at heart.
Adwoa Safo, the Ghanaian Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection who lives in the US, posted the image on her official social media to wish the congress attendees luck.

The theme for this year’s congress is “Holding Together, Working Together,” according to Adwoa Safo.

Adwoa Safo has been absent from the legislature for nearly a year, and a return is not in the cards.

She maintains that she was not invited, despite multiple invitations from the privileges committee, and that until she shows there, nothing can be done.

Check 10 cuts Ablakwa has suggested to Govt

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, has proposed ten spending reductions, including a postponement of the National Cathedral’s construction in the face of an IMF bailout and labor unrest.
A ban on all presidential chartered jet travel, an immediate assessment of Ghana’s end-of-service perks system, and the elimination of all ex-gratia payments for political and non-political beneficiaries are all included in the cuts proposed by the opposition MP.

The CEO of the ridiculous non-existent Keta Port should be fired, and the outrageous 337 political appointees at the Office of the President should be cut by more than half, according to the president’s request to “dramatically reduce the number of Ministers, abolish Deputy CEO positions, and terminate the CEO for the ridiculous non-existent Keta Port.”

My selection of urgent expenditure cuts and concrete actions required in the face of an IMF bailout and crippling labour agitations:

1) Suspend the unconstitutional public funding of the US$400million National Cathedral project which the government has so far diverted over GHS200million without parliamentary approval;

2) Renegotiate with owners of demolished properties at the National Cathedral location for a deferred compensation and save an estimated US$100million;

3) Ban all oligarchic presidential chartered jet travels which have cost suffering taxpayers in excess of GHS34million over the last 13 months;

4) Announce an immediate review of Ghana’s end of service benefits regime and scrap all ex-gratia payments for political and non-political beneficiaries;

5) Drastically reduce the number of Ministers, abolish Deputy CEO positions, dismiss the CEO for the ridiculous non-existent Keta Port and slash the outrageous 337 political appointees at the Office of the President by more than half;

6) Cancel vanity projects such as the proposed new €116million new Accra International Conference Centre project, 5 STEM universities, Boankra Green Technology City, Marine Drive Project, Stadia for Abuakwa and Sunyani, Agenda 111, new embassies in Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico;

7) Reallocate funds from government’s lavish GHS993million contingency vote (up by 431.5% from 186million in 2021) to other critical sectors such as meeting COLA demands of suffering Ghanaian workers;

8)Parliament should also shelve plans to construct new constituency offices for MPs;

9) Stop all ongoing opaque and crony procurement processes, particularly in the Communications and Digitalisation space where a Nigerian-led cabal have literally hijacked virtually every government contract (Further exposition on this to follow shortly);

10) The Executive, Legislature and Civil Society Organisations should jointly commission a special “Operation Retrieve and Recover” to take back billions of taxpayer funds in the wrong hands as revealed in various Auditor-General Reports over the last 10 years

Replace Teachers On Strike With Unemployed Graduates, Gov’t Told

Bernard Allotey Jacobs has called on government to replace the teachers on strike with unemployed graduates to make up for the disruption in the academic calendar.

Teachers at the pre-tertiary level, on Monday, July 4, embarked on strike demanding a 20% increase in the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

Labour unions have also threatened to take similar industrial action commencing on Tuesday, July 19.

Although the State authorities in charge of addressing the unions’ concerns have had a meeting with them to arrive at an amicable conclusion on the latest developments, the unions have however refused to call off their strike.

In view of this, Allotey Jacobs says the government should optimize the situation by taking the unemployed graduates to fill the vacuum created by the teachers on strike.

“If we employ the 1 millon unemployed graduates to start teaching whereas the teacher unions are negotiating with government, it would really help,” he said.

He however appealed to the unions to reconsider their decision, saying “I plead with them that doing the right thing at the wrong time is as equal as doing the wrong thing. This is time for us to beat our chest to say that we are Ghanaians, so Mr. President, irrespective of your faults, the world is suffering, therefore we will support you to make things better”.

The social commentator, Allotey Jacobs, made these submissions on Peace FM’s morning show.

Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and Mahama bid John Ndebugri final farewell

The last funeral ceremonies for the late John Ndebugre were attended by former president John Dramani Mahama, vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

On Friday, May 6, 2022, John Akparibo Ndebugre, a former representative for Zebilla, passed away.

After a brief illness, the former Peoples National Convention (PNC) MP passed away at the age of 72 in Zebilla, in the Upper East Region’s Bawku West District.

He was married, had four kids, and worked as a lawyer.

The late MP’s family attended a state funeral held on the State House’s courtyard in Accra, where the president and other dignitaries joined them to bid him farewell.

The president and other dignitaries joined the family of the late MP to say their final goodbyes at a state funeral held for him on the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

John Dramani Mahama signed a book of condolences for the late PNC MP, referring to John Ndebugre as his mentor and older brother.

“So shocked to learn of your sudden passing. You’ve been an elder brother, mentor, and comrade. Your words of advice and good counsel have served me well in my political career. Rest in peace, my big brother,” he wrote.

Also in attendance at the funeral were the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah.

Henry Quartey and Kennedy Agyapong are pardoned by the Privileges Committee as Adwoa Safo’s future is still uncertain

Kennedy Agyapong of Assin Central and Henry Quartey of Ayawaso Central won’t lose their seats despite missing more than 15 straight House sessions, according to the Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

According to a citinewsroom.com article, the committee did not make a conclusion regarding Sarah Adwoa Safo, a colleague and the MP (Member of Parliament) for Dome Kwabenya, and instead left her fate up to the full House.

Henry Boakye-Yiadom, an Akwatia MP and member of the Privileges Committee, revealed this in an interview with Citi TV. He said the committee decided by a vote of 15 to 12 that Agyapong and Quartey’s justifications for skipping class without permission were sufficient and that they shouldn’t lose their seats.

Adwoa Safo failed to appear before the committee to give a justification for her absence from the House since December 2021, he continued, which prevented the committee from making a decision on her.

“With Kennedy Agyapong, there were 15 votes against 12, likewise Henry Quartey. In Adwoa Safo’s case, the Chair of the committee said since she had never appeared before us, we did not vote. We have thus decided to hand her over to Parliament to determine her fate,” he said.

The decision of the committee will, however, be presented to the plenary for approval.

Ras Mubarak, a former member of parliament, requested that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, refer the three New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs to the House’s Privileges Committee in order to have them removed for missing more than 15 consecutive sessions during the first session of the eighth Parliament.

Akufo-Addo doing exactly what brought about ‘Kume Preko’ demo – Dr Adu Gyamfi

A political Historian with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, has bemoaned the hardship in the country under President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking to Piesie Okrah on Dwboase on TV XYZ, Dr Adu Gyamfi kicked against the introduction of the electronic transaction levy (E-Levy), stressing that the policy has bitten lower income earners hard.

The lecturer who made reference to the street protest by pressure group Arise Ghana recently stated that the demonstration was justified because the leaders of the country have not shown empathy to the masses at a time the economy is crumbling.

“The president is doing exactly what the government was doing that triggered the ”kume preko’demo in 1995 which Akufo-Addo led,” he lamented in Akan.

He said the government’s response to the demands of Ghanaians was not encouraging and that series of demonstrations will be staged against Akufo-Addo as the hardship bites more

Currently, four teacher unions have embarked on a strike action over the government’s inability to pay them cost of living allowance (CoLA).

The representatives of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Graduate Association of Teachers (NAGRAT) stormed out of the negotiations with the government over their demands.

The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) has also served notice of its intention to embark on industrial action on Tuesday, July 19, to demand a 20 percent Cost of Living Allowance.

The union said this has become necessary due to the worsening economic conditions in the country.

It said the decision to strike was taken at an emergency meeting on July 8.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are on the shortlist for CAF 2021/22 Player of the Year Award

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane won the FA Cup and the League Cup with Liverpool last season

Former Liverpool team-mates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are on the updated 10-man shortlist for the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) Men’s Player of the Year award for 2021-22.

Mane, who joined German champions Bayern Munich last month, had the upper hand over Salah at international level this year.

Senegal beat Salah’s Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February before winning their 2022 World Cup play-off tie the month after.

Mane is the last man to have been crowned Africa’s best, back in 2019 – since when the awards have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez, a Premier League winner with Manchester City, Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita also remain after the initial 30-man long list was cut down.

Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar, who became the first player to score eight goals at a single Nations Cup in over half a century, Karl Toko Ekambi, Achraf Hakimi, Sebastien Haller and Kalidou Koulibaly complete the nominees.

At club level, forwards Mane and Salah, both 30, won the FA Cup and League Cup in England last season but narrowly missed out on the Premier League title when the Reds lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in the European Champions League final.

Salah, who has claimed the Caf prize twice, ended the club season with a share of the Premier League Golden Boot, along with Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea striker Son Heung-min.

The Egyptian won domestic player of the season awards from the Football Writers’ Association and the Professional Footballers’ Association.

Caf has also trimmed its lists for several other men’s categories, including Coach and Young Player of the Year – with Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri still in the running for the latter.

A panel of Caf legends, technical experts and journalists decided on the nominees, covering performances from September 2021 until June this year.

The nominees for the women’s awards were announced last week and all the winners will be named on 21 July.
