I’m not done with that ‘Ofon’ – Daddy Lumba issues cryptic warning

After releasing his much-talked-about song, “Ofon Na 3di As3m fo” legendary musician Daddy Lumba born Charles Kwadwo Fosu says he is not yet done with that individual (Ofon).

Immediately after the release of the Christmas banger, many Ghanaians and music critics took to social media to analyse and try to find out what Daddy Lumba actually wanted to communicate and who in particular he was referring to.

But speaking in an interview with DL FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Daddy Lumba insisted that, “that useless individual who is misbehaving we are not done dealing with him”.

Daddy Lumba showing appreciation to his die-hard fans on live radio stressed that, “I thank everybody. What I would say before leaving here is that, may Good bless our country Ghana you have showed me true love. If thousands hate me, I know that thousands also love me but that useless individual who is misbehaving we are not done dealing with him”

Travelers to Ghana are permitted to choose a visa upon arrival

According to the Ministry of Transport, travellers traveling to Ghana may now choose to obtain a visa upon arrival.

The Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Tourism Authority were consulted, the Transport Ministry said, and this came after both groups’ consultations.

According to the Ministry, this will help the government’s “Beyond the Return” effort.

“Approval has been given for passengers travelling to Ghana to opt for visa-on-arrival waiving the requirement for prior approval” a communiqué to all airlines said.

“Consequently, it would be appreciated if systems are updated to reflect this new arrangement and those responsible for checking-in passengers traveling to Ghana advised not to insist on entry visas prior to their boarding”, the statement added.

NDC MP whose absence thwarted minority’s VAT resistance revealed

The identity of the Minority Member Parliament whose absence on Wednesday, 21 December 2022 led to the 136-135 vote has been revealed.

The government which is hell-bent on approval of the 2.5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) increase faced a pushback from the Haruna Iddrissu-led Minority.

Despite the minority caucus’ opposition, the majority caucus had its way with a headcount victory of 136 as against 135 after Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra region of Ghana, Theresa Lardi Awuni.

The MP was said to have been out of Accra for a personal emergency without informing Chief Whip Hon. Muntaka Mubarak leading to the 136-135 vote defeat of the Minority who have vowed to resist the government’s “profligacy amidst new taxes”.

Analysts and commentators say the blame for the taxes should be laid on President Akufo-Addo and the NPP instead of the MP whose absence made the VAT increase successful.

Despite the Vote defeat, the Minority in Parliament however compelled the government to withdraw and reallocate the GHS80 million allocated in the 2023 budget for the construction of the National Cathedral to the roads and communications sectors.

Further, the said amount was completely removed from the final appropriation bill.

The NDC MPs also expunged the Special Development Initiatives Secretariate and Monitoring & Evaluation Secretariate under the Office of the President from the 2023 appropriation.

The NEC MPs said the office is duplicating the roles of other properly constituted state agencies and hence will not be funded in 2023.

Customs officers allegedly beat up the ‘wrong man’ over theft allegations

An innocent civilian who was accused of stealing was allegedly brutalized by certain members of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

GhanaWeb discovered a popular video that showed the officers instructing individuals to sit on the ground after they exited a white pickup truck.

They chose one individual and began beating him up from among this group.

The event, as described by the man in the video that looked to be from a CCTV camera, allegedly took place at the Paradise resort near the Linda Dor restaurant in Nsutam in the Eastern Region.

He claimed that the about 5 customs officers seen in the video are from the Nsutam office of customs.

The narrator, who gave his name as Kwaku Adu, claimed that the police arrived in Paradise after receiving a report from a man claiming to have been robbed by a person driving a black car.

“Without asking him any questions, they began beating up a young man who was beside a black car as soon as they arrived on the scene. The man arrived at the location to meet with the daughter of Paradise’s owner.

“When the police arrived, they ordered everyone to sit on the ground and enquired as to whose automobile it was. The man claimed it belonged to him.

He continued by saying that all of their efforts to bring about justice for the victim had failed. He requested assistance for the young man, who he claimed is still disabled as a result of the beatings he received, from officials who had watched the video.

At Sekondi, a pregnant woman perishes in a well.

0

In the Western Region’s Sekondi, a pregnant woman in her fifth month of pregnancy lost her life after falling into a well.

The event reportedly occurred on Tuesday as Efua Amoaba, 38, was going to the well to get water.

Although the dead fell into the well on Tuesday, James Obeng Jr., the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan NADMO Coordinator, stated in an interview that her body was recovered on Wednesday.

He clarified that this was the case since Madam Amoaba’s family initially believed she was gone before learning that someone had fallen into a well.

The family then went to the scene to make sure it was really their relative.

The Ghana National Fire Service was then contacted, and they arrived at the location to remove her body.

The body was taken to the Effia Nkawnta Mortuary, according to Mr. Obeng, who said that the police, who were present on the scene, did a preliminary inquiry.

Up until her passing, Efua Amoaba was a mother of two and a fish seller.

Russian Embassy in Accra is indirectly responding to Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cited the Russian government in Washington, DC, last week when he said that the Wagner Outfit, a mercenary group connected to the government, is operating in Burkina Faso, which is right next door.

In a meeting with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, President Akufo-Addo, who was in the US for the US-African Leaders’ summit, urged the US government to assist in addressing the threat posed by the group.

“I believe that there is one thing I want to urge you to consider above all else. On our northern border right now are Russian mercenaries. A deal has now been reached for Burkina Faso to support Mali in using the Wagner forces there.

“I believe a mine in southern Burkina has been allocated to them as a form of payment for their services. Prime minister of Burkina Faso in the last 10 days has been in Moscow. And to have them operating on our northern border is particularly distressing for us in Ghana,” he said.

The Russian Embassy in Accra has been tweeting subtly worded messages on Twitter in reaction to the comments made by Akufo-Addo, who went so far as to suggest that Russia would attack Ghana because of her position on the Russia-Ukraine war. The Russian government hasn’t publicly responded.

The most recent was an opinion post published on the TFIGlobal news platform by a man named Michael Mahanta. The article from December 19, 2022, titled “IMF literally bribes Ghana to turn it against Russia,” links Akufo-remarks Addo’s to Ghana’s ongoing bailout talks with the IMF.

“Now, it couldn’t have just been a coincidence that Ghana made accusations against Russia’s Wagner forces at a time when it was receiving IMF aid (and also breaking its own agreement).”

“Now, the statements from Ghana against Russia’s Wagner forces at a time when it receives IMF assistance (that too, going back on its own promise), couldn’t have just been a coincidence.”

“Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also said that Ghana could have undertaken exchanges with the Burkinabe authorities on the security issue in order to have the right information,” it added.

The author continued: “Ghana, under economic pressure, has finally come under Western influence, and there’s every possibility that Ghana is only speaking the West’s language against Russia.” The West has faced widespread criticism from Western African governments and people, and anti-West sentiments have been growing for some time.

“West African countries that once had good diplomatic, economic, and strategic ties with France, have dumped it as they have realized such partnerships have only created more crises than they have solved in the region.”

NDC elects executives for election 2024

0

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants to overthrow the New Patriotic Party’s eight-year rule in the 2024 elections, but first they must reassemble the NEC, which is a very unimportant subject.

Over 9000 delegates will cast their ballots for the preferred candidates for the various seats on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

There are nine posts up for grabs with over 62 people fighting for them now that the elections for the National Women and Youth Organizers are over and Sammy Gyamfi has been appointed National Communications Officer.

Similar to elections of this kind, several posts have been designated as being the most hotly contested.

National Chairmanship Position

When it comes to whatever post is receiving media attention, the National Chairmanship race is without a doubt the best of the group.

This is due to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s realization that he must advance and take on the chairmanship role after serving the NDC for 17 years as General Secretary.

The only problem is that General Mosquito is running for the position currently held by Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, who is, to be fair, a strong candidate.

Although there are two more competitors, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Asiedu Nketiah have dominated the build-up.

Both candidates have been traveling the entire nation in an effort to win over delegates. Before audio of Asiedu Nketiah speaking to certain delegates made its way into the public, their campaign had been dominated by covert attacks.

Since then, both men have been criticizing and defending their stances in the mainstream media.

General Secretary

The fact that General Mosquito is leaving his position after all these years has made it available to potential candidates, and there could be three of them.

The three candidates are Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the current Deputy General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, a former Minister and Parliamentarian, and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former Sports and Youth Minister and Director of Elections for the party.

Fiifi Kwetey is regarded as a more composed, diplomatic individual who will bring some calm to the post in contrast to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, whose enthusiasm and charisma allure him to supporters. After years of working under Asiedu Nketiah, Peter Otokunor has declared himself to be the heir apparent.

National Organizer

Joshua Akamba is up against some serious competition for his job, including Chief Biney Nixon, his deputy, the former deputy minister of sports, Joseph Yamin, and Solomon Yaw Nkansah.

The two people who are thought to pose the largest obstacles to the Akamba’s attempt to keep his position are Chief Biney and Joseph Yamin.

The aforementioned portfolios’ deputy posts are also up for grabs. Voting will also take place for the NEC members and Zongo Caucus Coordinator, among other important roles.

Truth stand, I won’t apologize: Asiedu Nketiah fires back at critics of viral audio

Asiedu Nketiah, a candidate for National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, has rejected calls for him to apologise to the Supreme Court and to Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for the revelations he made in a viral audio clip about the 2020 election petition.

In an interview with Okay FM on Friday, December16,2022, Asiedu Nketiah admitted responsibility for the audio’s content but vowed not to retract it or apologize.

The departing NDC General Secretary insisted that everything he said in the video was accurate and that he didn’t see the point in making excuses for stating the obvious.

He claimed that the New Patriotic Party was behind the demands for an apology from him.

Asiedu Nketiah also outlined the difference in the 2012 and 2022 election petitions filed by the NPP and NDC respectively.

“I won’t retract and apologize because I said the truth. It is the NPP who are behind it, described as a leaked tape. It is not a leaked tape. I said it at a gathering and I was aware of the things I was saying. I said the truth. I’m daring anyone to come out and deny any falsehood in what I said. So far, no one has come out to dispute what I said.

“Everything I said is public knowledge. In court, I said that we didn’t bring collated results. The case we took to court wasn’t about our pink sheets versus the EC’s pink sheets. Our case was built on the fact that the Electoral Commission breached aspects of the constitution and we wanted the EC to be judged on their own figures,” he said.

Asiedu Nketiah in the said audio accused the incumbent chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo of being the brain behind the party’s defeat in the 2020 elections and the election petition.

“In terms of the party’s operations, I superintendent over all affairs, and everyone reports to me. As a result, I may as well accept the blame for the party’s inability to collate its 2020 election results.

However, there are specific people who engineered that problem. The Chairman’s system for collating results broke down after computing results from 5 regions.

Later when we had to go to court, he didn’t give me any useful data to present. That’s why I said I didn’t have our collated results when I was asked. I don’t know how to lie”, he explained in the local Twi dialect.

Take him off my show – Captain Smart ‘sacks’ Ras Mubarak

On Captain Smart’s evening broadcast on Onua TV, dramatic events took place, culminating in the host figuratively dismissing former Kumbugu Member of Parliament Ras Mubarak from the program after about two minutes of heated exchanges.

Ras Mubarak is seen complaining to Captain Smart in a viral video of the event about what he perceives to be disruption and noise from a makeup artist in the studio.

Ras Mubarak tried to draw Captain Smart’s attention to what he believed to be the woman in question’s sarcastic remarks in the hopes that he would be able to convey his point by silencing her.

It’s interesting to note, though, that Captain Smart opposed to Ras Mubarak’s call, asking why he would pay attention to the staff rather than the program.

Ras Mubarak made it clear that the lady’s alleged unfavorable remarks had upset him and disrupted his train of thinking.

Instead, Captain Smart criticized Ras Mubarak for not “respecting” the seat he was sitting in. Ras Mubarak would have disregarded the woman’s insult and carried on with his submission, according to Captain Smart, if he had respected the program.

Ras Mubarak was horrified by Captain Smart’s hostile demeanor, so he threatened to leave the show and demanded that something be done to stop the woman’s behavior.

The host yelled at him and demanded to know why he was still sitting in his seat if he was upset with the woman’s attitude, which enraged Captain Smart even more.

The discussions persisted, and Captain Smart ultimately issued an order.

Captain Smart eventually gave Ras Mubarak the go-ahead to leave the set and announced a break as the exchanges went on.

Nana Addo and Rebecca meet Joe and Jill Biden in the White House

0

Over 40 African leaders, including Akufo-Addo, are present for the US-Africa Leaders’ summit, which is being hosted by Joe Biden.

The US president hosted the African leaders to a dinner in addition to the important diplomatic, bilateral, and multilateral engagements the leaders conducted with the US government and other development partners.

The moment the President and Rebecca arrived at the White House for the meal is captured in photos posted on the President’s Facebook account, as are pictures of them with Joe and Jill Biden.

Akufo-Addo has made an official trip to Washington since Biden was elected president, but Kamala Harris, the vice president, hosted him.

The summit of US and African leaders in 2022 began on December 13 and runs through December 15. It is the second such event; the first was hosted by Joe Biden, who served as Barack Obama’s vice president at the time.

Ghana was represented by then-President John Dramani Mahama and wife Lordina Mahama in 2014 when the Obama White House hosted African leaders.
