Community Mourns Loss of Elly Colon, Young New Yorker Known for Advocacy and Love

The Plainview, NY community and beyond are grappling with the sudden loss of Elysia ‘Elly’ Colon, a young woman remembered for her vibrant spirit and advocacy work. Elly’s family announced her unexpected passing through a GoFundMe campaign aimed at funding her memorial services, though the cause of her death remains undisclosed.

Colon, described as queer and a cherished member of the New York City social scene, left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Her friends have been sharing heartfelt tributes that paint a picture of her as a beacon of kindness, generosity, and love.

“My sweet beautiful friend elly. we met in 2019 freshman year of college. i’m so lucky to have been in their orbit, to experience the community and joy and love they created everywhere they went. the ellyverse is forever,” shared Hannah Evie in one of many poignant memorials.

Turkish Princess, another friend, expressed, “She is one of the very few people who i can confidently say knew me wholly and completely; i never felt afraid or embarrassed to tell her anything, because that’s just the kind of person she was. she could see someone at their absolute worst and still never let them forget how much she loved them. she saw the good in everyone.”

Elly was also known for her advocacy, particularly in the realm of mental health, where she focused on raising awareness for children’s mental health. Her commitment to this cause was echoed in several tributes, highlighting her dedication to making a positive impact.

A memorial service to honor Elly is scheduled for February 1st, 2025. The GoFundMe, spearheaded by Mickie Lewis from Plainview, NY, to assist with funeral expenses, has successfully raised around $21,000, reflecting the community’s support and love for this young woman.
