Christian Atsu will receive a befitting burial- Bawumia

On February 19, 2023 at the Kotoka International Airport, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said that Christian Atsu would have a dignified funeral.

The earthquake that struck sections of Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023 trapped the former Black Stars winger.

His bones were discovered beneath the wreckage on February 18 after a 12-day search, and they were then shipped to Ghana, where they arrived on Sunday from Istanbul.

At the brief ceremony when his remains were received, Bawumia expressed his sympathies to the family once more and emphasized that Atsu was a deserving son of Ghana who will receive a fitting burial.

“We are here to receive the remains of our brother, Christian Atsu, and it is a very sad day. We hoped every day for our brother to be found after the horrific earthquake in Turkey, but when he was, he had died, the man added.

We shall undoubtedly miss him because he was dearly liked. That is a terrible loss, and we pray that the soul of our brother is at peace with our Creator,” he continued.

The State will work closely with the family to ensure that the man receives a proper funeral, according to Bawumia. “We send our profound sympathies to the entire family for their loss,” the president said.
