Charlie Kirk, the influential conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot Tuesday evening while speaking at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old political figure was struck in the neck during a public event and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Kirk’s death has sent shockwaves through the political world. Known for his outspoken support of President Donald Trump and his role in mobilizing young conservatives, Kirk had become one of the most prominent voices in right-wing politics over the past decade.
He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve Kirk, a former Miss Arizona USA, podcaster, and philanthropist. The couple married in May 2021 and had two young children—a daughter aged three and a son just one year old.
At the time of his death, Kirk’s personal net worth was estimated at $12 million, bolstered by book deals, speaking engagements, and real estate holdings that included a $4.75 million estate near Phoenix and a beachside condo on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Under his leadership, Turning Point USA grew into a national force, valued at over $83 million by 2023 and employing more than 450 staff members.
Erika Kirk released a statement early Wednesday, saying: “My husband laid down his life for me, for our nation, for our children. The grief is unbearable, but Charlie’s legacy will live on.”
Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect, but confirmed that the shooter was apprehended at the scene. The FBI has joined local law enforcement in investigating the incident, with political extremism among the possible motives.
A public memorial is being planned in Phoenix, Arizona, where Kirk resided with his family. Turning Point USA has vowed to continue his mission, stating, “Charlie built a movement. We will honor him by carrying it forward.”
