A cross-section of Ghanaians have joined celebrities to express their anger at President Akufo-Addo’s remarks after the president made them during a visit to districts hit by flooding.
In a speech to some of the areas that were severely impacted by the floods brought on by the Akosombo Dam spill, President Akufo-Addo reassured the afflicted communities of his administration’s commitment to resolving the issue.
The president said in his speech, “I came here because Ghanaians are struggling and suffering, and it is my job to try and assist. Since you don’t vote for me, if it’s a matter of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t, then I shouldn’t be here. But I’m not worried about it. In any case, you will vote for me and my party one day.
Some members of the public did not agree with the president’s remarks, believing they lacked compassion given how terrible the flooding problem is.
They have contended that in this situation, the president should not have remarked on the voting.
You (@NAkufoAddo) have dwarfed all the relevant issues in this spillage with your comments on votes. #needless
