Ghanaian musician Nana Kwame Nkrumah Buabeng, popularly known as Nero X, has reaffirmed that his vocal support for President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign was driven by a desire for national progress, not personal ambition. The statement comes amid speculation about political appointments for entertainers who backed Mahama’s successful bid for the presidency.

In an interview with Graphic Online on April 11, 2025, Nero X addressed rumors that his endorsement was motivated by expectations of a government role. “My support for H.E. John Dramani Mahama in the last elections was not about getting an appointment but to help Ghana choose the right leader,” he said. “As a patriotic citizen, I believe we made the right choice.” While open to opportunities that align with his interests, the musician emphasized that his campaign efforts, including the release of songs like “Mahama for 2024” and “JM #8,” were rooted in his belief in Mahama’s vision, particularly the 24-hour economy policy.

Nero X’s support for Mahama dates back to at least June 2024, when he released “Mahama for 2024,” a campaign anthem praising the former president as Ghana’s “savior” during economic challenges. He followed up with “JM #8” in October 2024, further amplifying Mahama’s message. In a previous interview with Onua TV in August 2024, Nero X cited Mahama’s economic proposals as a key reason for his endorsement, noting, “I’ve seen how other countries operate on a 24-hour economy, and I believe it will help Ghanaians.”

The artist also reflected on his earlier support for Mahama’s opponent, President Nana Akufo-Addo, admitting in November 2024 that he felt he had “betrayed” Mahama by composing a song for Akufo-Addo in the past. “I did it as an apology to Mahama, to right my wrong,” he said of his 2024 campaign efforts, stressing that his decision was independent and without external pressure.

As Mahama’s administration takes shape following his January 7, 2025, inauguration, several creatives who campaigned for him have reportedly received appointments, fueling public curiosity about Nero X’s future. However, the musician remains focused on his craft, recently releasing “Low Key,” a single reflecting on his music journey and resilience. “I want to motivate my fans never to give up and to let people know I’m still around, working on great things,” he said.
