Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent political strategist for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has hinted that the government may be looking to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assistance to get the economy back on track after the electronic transfer levy (E-Levy) failed to produce enough revenue for the economy.
Mr. Otchere-Darko stated in a series of tweets that he has not opposed an IMF program that would boost economic confidence.

He lamented the fact that the E-Levy only brought in GHC 60 million, or 10% of the projected profits.

The administration of President Akufo-Addo had previously stated that it would not ask the IMF for economic assistance, but Mr. Otchere-tweets Darko appears to indicate that the government is now considering that option.
