According to the former president John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s economy has been experiencing crises one after another over the last few years. He claimed that as a result, the living conditions are at an all-time low. He claimed that the currency’s depreciation versus the US dollar over the past ten months has been the biggest in recent memory at around 62%.

“In the last few years, our economy has lurched from crisis to crisis, ultimately resulting in the most debilitating living conditions in several decades. Within a space of ten months, our currency has depreciated by over 62% against the US$, which is the highest in recent memory,”Mr Mahama tweeted o Friday November.

He voiced optimism for an improving economy last week.

He believed that if Ghanaians worked together, they could turn the country’s economic fortunes around for the good of everybody.

Speaking on October 27 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), he said that “no matter how dire the situation is, together we can preserve Ghana and establish the Ghana we desire. I’m still optimistic that things will improve. I firmly believe in the resiliency of our population.

He commanded the security organizations to “stay obedient to the state and the constitution. We can change the situation; the existing economic condition is no justification for any unconstitutional behavior.
