Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the outgoing Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has expressed concerns about the challenges the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will face following their victory in the 2024 elections. In a recent interview, Afenyo-Markin warned that Ghanaians might soon regret giving power to the NDC, as the party’s promises and governance style could lead to significant issues.

Afenyo-Markin criticized the NDC for creating high expectations among Ghanaians, portraying the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration as ineffective. He argued that the NDC’s campaign was steeped in propaganda, which may yield short-term gains but could backfire in the long term[2].

He also highlighted potential challenges the NDC MPs could face, particularly with their promise to operate a lean government. Afenyo-Markin noted that with a reduced ministerial team, many NDC MPs would be left without additional responsibilities beyond their parliamentary duties, leading to frustrations and a lack of enthusiasm in parliamentary activities[1].

Nonetheless, when asked for specifics about which MPs participated in these leadership talks, Afenyo-Markin remained tight-lipped.

Afenyo-Markin also conveyed his conviction that the public will soon recognize the true character of the NDC and may regret their decision in the 2024 elections.

“I am confident that the public will soon see the true nature of the NDC and may regret giving them power in the just-ended general election,” he added, suggesting that the NDC’s actions and internal conflicts may have consequences for their political standing in the future.
