ACCRA — Ghana’s Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has officially unveiled AgriVision AI, a pioneering digital platform designed to build climate resilience across West Africa’s agricultural sector. Launched in partnership with global technology consortia and international development agencies, the initiative integrates satellite telemetry, machine learning, and local soil sensors to provide smallholder farmers with predictive agricultural analytics.

The launch comes at a critical juncture as erratic weather patterns disrupt cocoa and grain yields across the region, causing ripple effects across global commodity markets. AgriVision AI utilizes predictive algorithms to analyze microclimates, sending real-time warnings regarding pest outbreaks, soil degradation, and optimal planting windows directly to farmers via SMS and voice prompts in local languages, including Twi, Dagbani, and Ewe.

Global market observers have praised the initiative as a potential blueprint for climate adaptation in developing economies. By linking farm-level output with international supply chain logistics, the project aims to stabilize cocoa exports to major European and North American processing hubs while increasing domestic farm yields by an estimated 25 percent over the next three years. International tech partners have committed an initial $45 million toward data infrastructure and rural broadband expansion in Ghana to support the project.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, government representatives emphasized that Ghana is positioning itself as a West African hub for applied artificial intelligence. ‘This platform demonstrates how technology can directly safeguard livelihoods and fortify food security against escalating climate pressures,’ noted key project directors. Full deployment is scheduled to begin across the Ashanti, Western, and Northern regions next month prior to a nationwide rollout.
