Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, recently voiced concerns about a vote-buying scheme in her constituency. In an interview aired on Metro TV on October 24, 2024, Morrison claimed that her constituents have been transferring their votes to the neighboring Effutu Constituency. She alleged that Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Effutu and leader of the NPP caucus in Parliament, has been offering GH¢1000 to voters.

Morrison expressed frustration over the inadequate support her constituency receives from the government, despite its size. She highlighted that Agona West has 31 electoral areas, more than neighboring constituencies like Swedru, Agona East, and Gomoa Central, yet receives the same amount of funding.

She lamented that this financial disparity makes it challenging for her to address the needs of her constituency. Morrison also noted that the alleged vote-buying has reduced the population of Agona West, complicating efforts to establish it as a district.

Morrison urged her constituents who have transferred their votes to return when the voter register reopens, to ensure an accurate population count for potentially dividing Agona West into Agona West and Agona Central.

In response, Afenyo-Markin has denied the allegations, stating that all MPs from the affected constituencies had agreed to prevent voter transfers.
