In a recent appearance on TV3’s “Hot Issues,” Primus Baro, the National Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has strongly refuted claims suggesting that his organization has been silent on the pressing issues facing secondary schools in Ghana.

Baro was quick to dispel the narrative of inactivity, stating, “If anybody says CHASS has been quiet, it is not true. It’s unfortunate. CHASS has never been quiet.” He pointed out that the organization’s efforts might have been overlooked due to a recent shift in government, which has seemingly brought more media scrutiny to educational challenges that have been ongoing.

He remarked, “I don’t know for some reasons if, because of the change in government, the media houses are now trying to find out some of these issues because these same letters have been out there,” suggesting that the media’s current interest might be more politically motivated than based on the novelty of the problems.

Baro also highlighted CHASS’s proactive stance, noting that last year, they had already taken their concerns directly to the Parliamentary Select Committee. “Indeed, last year we went up to the Parliamentary select committee so we’ve been talking,” he added, underlining the organization’s commitment to dialogue and resolution.

This development sheds light on the complexities of educational governance in Ghana, where changes in administration can influence public and media perceptions of ongoing issues. It also underscores the importance of continuous engagement between educational bodies, lawmakers, and the public to address the needs of the educational sector effectively.
