ATM Card Left at Crime Scene Leads to Arrests in East Legon Murder Case

The Ghana Police Service has made a breakthrough in the investigation of the brutal murder of 58-year-old Lebanese national Omar Mikati, found dead in a pool of blood at his East Legon residence on June 20, 2025. Two suspects, Paul Twumasi Ankrah and Asiedu Henning, also known as Nana Kofi Anum, have been arrested following the discovery of a critical piece of evidence: a GCB ATM card left at the crime scene.

According to police reports, a team from the Police Headquarters’ Crime Scene Management Unit (CSMU) was dispatched to Mikati’s home, where they collected forensic evidence. Preliminary investigations revealed that the perpetrators fled with the victim’s Samsung mobile phone but left behind two iPhones and the GCB ATM card bearing the name Paul Twumasi Ankrah. This crucial clue led police to Ankrah, who was apprehended at Samsam Medie. During interrogation, Ankrah implicated his accomplice, Asiedu Henning, who was subsequently arrested on July 2, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Kutunse.

Further investigation led to the recovery of a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, after Henning guided officers to its location. Both suspects have been remanded by the Adabraka District Court 1 and are scheduled to reappear on July 8, 2025, as the police continue their inquiries into the motive and circumstances surrounding Mikati’s death.

The murder, which has shocked the East Legon community, underscores the importance of forensic evidence in solving serious crimes. The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that the investigation remains active, with efforts ongoing to ensure justice for the victim.
