A Daniel Yusif, popularly known as Slab and a close associate of social media personality Frederick Kumi (aka Abu Trica), has been arrested by Ghanaian authorities on allegations of involvement in wire fraud related to romance scams.

Yusif, who reportedly attempted to flee the country to evade capture, was intercepted at Kotoka International Airport in Accra while trying to board a flight to Europe. Security operatives, who had been monitoring potential escape routes including land borders, apprehended him after he visited a spiritual priest in an effort to avoid detection.

Following his arrest, Yusif was remanded in police custody and made his first appearance before the Gbese Magistrate Court on Friday, January 16, 2026. The court proceedings have drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some Ghanaians expressing support for the crackdown on cybercrime and others debating the circumstances of the case.

The arrest comes amid ongoing investigations linked to Abu Trica, who was detained in a joint operation by the FBI and Ghanaian agencies on December 11, 2025. Kumi faces U.S. charges for allegedly orchestrating a romance scam network that defrauded elderly Americans of over $8 million, using tactics including artificial intelligence to create false identities.

Yusif’s case is believed to tie into the broader probe, though specific details of the charges against him remain under investigation. He has been remanded and is scheduled to reappear in court on April 4, 2026.

Authorities continue to emphasize the need for accountability in cyber-related offenses, as Ghana grapples with its international reputation in transnational fraud cases.
