Azusa, California – The Azusa High School community is reeling from the tragic loss of one of its own, 17-year-old Angelina Gonzalez, who was fatally stabbed on Friday night, December 20, 2024. The Azusa Unified School District officially announced her death, highlighting her as a cherished member of the school’s community.
“With profound sadness, we share the tragic passing of Angelina Gonzales, a 12th-grade student at Azusa High School and a cherished member of our school community. Angelina was an exceptional young woman whose talents and energy touched the lives of so many around her,” the school district’s statement read. Gonzalez was not only a dedicated cheerleader but also an artist of note, having secured first place in the Congressional Art Competition in June and the Judge’s Choice Award in 2022.
The incident took place around 10 p.m. near the 300 block of North Soldano Avenue, close to Third Street and west of Azusa High School West Campus. Responding to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon, the Azusa Police Department found Gonzalez suffering from stab wounds. She was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An 18-year-old male, known to Gonzalez, was arrested in connection with the crime. The exact nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
The school district extended its condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to Angelina’s family and friends… Let’s honor Angelina’s memory by holding her family in our thoughts and embracing one another with care and compassion.”
