A Plus Critiques Alleged IGP Maneuvering

Kwame Asare Obeng, better known as A Plus, has once again ignited debate within Ghana’s political arena with his pointed critique of a senior police officer’s alleged maneuvering to secure the position of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) under a potential National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

A Plus expressed skepticism about the officer’s loyalty and motives, highlighting that the individual was previously appointed by President Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to purportedly assist in manipulating electoral outcomes.

“I’m curious about how it seems everyone in Ghana is now a member of the NDC,” A Plus remarked, questioning the officer’s sudden shift in political allegiance and his aggressive lobbying for the IGP role. He stressed the need for integrity in leadership, stating, “We need people who are fair. People who are professionals and can stand their grounds to move Ghana forward.”

He further elaborated on the officer’s past actions, suggesting complicity in electoral manipulation during Akufo-Addo’s term. “When you accepted that position from Akufo Addo, you were well aware that the NPP was desperate to rig the election. They knew Dr. Dampare would ensure a free and fair process and couldn’t be counted on to facilitate any rigging,” A Plus asserted, pointing to a potential conflict of interest.

While recognizing the Ghana Police Service’s reputation as one of Africa’s best in managing election security, A Plus warned of the damage that “bad apples” could do to this standing. He specifically named “Commander Boham” in his critique, which has since gone viral online, drawing much public attention.

In his typical fashion, A Plus injected humor into his serious commentary, jesting that he would “break up” with Lordina Mahama if the officer were appointed IGP, emphasizing, “She is my ‘sugar mummy!’ I’m going to sit her down to give her a proper briefing. Sagaa!” Yet, beneath this light-hearted quip, his call for professionalism and integrity in law enforcement leadership was evident.

This critique by A Plus not only highlights ongoing concerns about political influence in police appointments but also underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity of democratic processes in Ghana.
