President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The decision, announced in an official statement from the Presidency on Saturday, follows allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency. Baba Jamal, popularly known as Baba Jamal, contested and won the primary, polling 431 votes against Hajia Amina Adam’s 399.
According to the Presidency, while multiple candidates faced accusations of vote-buying in the internal party election, Baba Jamal was singled out as the only serving public officer involved. President Mahama emphasized the need to preserve the integrity and ethical standards expected of public officeholders.
The recall takes effect immediately, with the Minister for Foreign Affairs instructed to handle the necessary administrative and diplomatic procedures.
Baba Jamal’s victory in the Ayawaso East primary had already drawn public scrutiny amid claims of inducements to delegates. The President’s swift action underscores his administration’s stance against any form of electoral malpractice, particularly involving state officials.
No further details on Baba Jamal’s next steps or a potential replacement for the High Commission post have been released.
