The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late Former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, 28th November 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.
The announcement, issued by the Presidency on Thursday, comes under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama and recognizes Mrs. Rawlings’ enduring legacy in championing the rights of women and children, as well as her significant contributions to national development.
Mrs. Rawlings, widow of former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 during the regimes of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administrations.
The state funeral will provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to pay their final respects to a figure widely regarded as a trailblazer in gender advocacy and social reform.
The communique was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
Further details regarding the funeral programme, including lying in state and burial arrangements, are expected to be released in the coming days.
Mrs. Rawlings’ passing marks the end of an era in Ghanaian political and social history, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the nation and beyond.
