Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said that he did not talk to Luka Modric about his decision to rest the Croatian midfielder in the club’s recent match against Las Palmas.
Modric, who is 38 years old, has been a key player for Real Madrid in recent seasons, but Ancelotti felt that it was important to rest him in order to manage his workload.
“I didn’t talk to Luka about that,” Ancelotti said. “The players understand when they have to rest and rotate.”
“Bellingham didn’t play too. I try to manage the players as best as possible.”
Ancelotti’s decision to rest Modric has been praised by some pundits, who believe that it is important to manage the workload of older players. Others, however, have questioned the decision, pointing out that Modric is one of Real Madrid’s best players and that he should be playing in every game.
It remains to be seen whether Modric will start in Real Madrid’s next match, but Ancelotti has insisted that he will continue to manage the player’s workload carefully.
“We have a lot of important games coming up,” Ancelotti said. “I need to make sure that all of my players are fresh and ready to go.”
