Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie, has slammed his colleagues and fans for their silence over the recent assault on singer, Mohbad, by his record label operatives.
In a post shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, September 17, 2023, Edochie expressed his disappointment at the fact that no one in the entertainment industry has spoken out against the incident.
He also criticized fans for their quickness to forgive their favorite celebrities when they commit wrongdoings.
“The same thing Naira, others did to Mohbad is the same thing you all have done to me for over one year,” he wrote.
“You all ganged up against me and my family, and you never stopped until you destroyed me. But now, you are all silent over what happened to Mohbad.
“Why is that? Is it because he is not as popular as me? Or is it because he is not your favorite celebrity?
“You people are hypocrites. You claim to love your celebrities, but you are always quick to turn against them when they make mistakes.
“Well, I am here to tell you that you are all wrong. Mohbad did not do anything wrong. He was simply trying to protect himself from being exploited.
“But you all ganged up against him and you are now trying to destroy him.
“I am not going to stand by and watch you do this. I am going to speak out against this injustice.
“I urge all my colleagues in the entertainment industry to speak out against this assault. We cannot allow this to continue.
“We need to stand up for Mohbad and for all other artists who are being exploited by their record labels.”
Edochie’s post has generated a lot of reactions from his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Many of his fans have praised him for speaking out against the assault, while some of his colleagues have also expressed their support for him.
However, some of his colleagues have also criticized him for his post, arguing that he should not have dragged the entire entertainment industry into the matter.
The assault on Mohbad has sparked a lot of debate about the relationship between record labels and artists in Nigeria.
Many artists have come out to accuse their record labels of exploitation and abuse.
The Nigerian Copyright Commission has also launched an investigation into the matter.
It remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigation will be, but one thing is for sure: the assault on Mohbad has highlighted a serious problem in the Nigerian music industry.
