The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) will hold a limited exercise from September 12 to October 2, 2023, to clean the voters’ register. The exercise will allow qualified persons to verify their details on the register and raise objections to the inclusion of unqualified persons.
The EC said the exercise is necessary to ensure that the voters’ register is accurate and up-to-date. The register will be used for the 2024 general elections, and the EC wants to ensure that only eligible voters are registered.
Under the limited exercise, qualified persons can verify their details on the register by providing their National ID card or passport at any designated registration center. They can also raise objections to the inclusion of unqualified persons by providing the name, age, and residential address of the person.
The EC has urged all qualified persons to participate in the limited exercise to ensure that their details are accurate and that unqualified persons are not registered to vote.
The limited exercise will be held from 7am to 5pm daily, except on Sundays and public holidays. The following are the designated registration centers:
- District Electoral Offices
- Electoral Commission Offices
- Community Centers
- Schools
- Public places
The EC has also set up a toll-free number, 0800-222-100, for persons who have any questions about the limited exercise.
The EC is committed to ensuring that the 2024 general elections are free, fair, and transparent. The limited exercise is a key part of this commitment. By cleaning the voters’ register, the EC is ensuring that only eligible voters are registered and that the elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
