Samuel Frederick Smith was born on the 19th of May 1992 in London, England. His parents are Frederick Smith and Kate Cassidy. As children they performed in various productions as members of the Youth Music Theatre UK.

They attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford and studied singing and songwriting with singer Joanna Eden for several years.

At the beginning of their career, Smith independently released the singles “Bad Day All Week” and “When It’s Alright” (both of which were released before 2010).

In October 2012, the release of Disclosure’s “Latch” gave Smith his first major exposure to a large audience. The song, which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart, featured Smith’s vocals.
The track’s popularity fueled his rapid rise to fame. The following year, he released “Lay Me Down” from his debut album (2013). In the same year, he contributed to Naughty Boy’s song “La La La”, which debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart.

On November 18th, Smith released the single “Night Before Christmas”, which will be included on her EP “The Holly & the Ivy”.
