Francis Asenso-Boakye, minister of works and housing, has revealed that a private developer has taken over management of the government’s Saglemi housing project.

He claims that after the housing units are finished, the developer will be in charge of selling them.

Francis Asenso-Boakye declared at a news conference in Accra on Sunday, November 13, 2022, that the project was handicapped and the government could no longer make investments in it.

“Government doesn’t intend to spend more on the project’s completion,” he declared. The project will be sold by the government.”

“We’re letting a private sector developer to take the lead on developing and marketing the housing units, the official said.

The housing minister announced that a committee will be appointed to oversee the procedure and guarantee open competition.

The NDC government’s 2012 launch of the Saglemi housing project with a goal of constructing 5000 homes.

After allegations of financial misappropriation, the project eventually came to a standstill.

The 1500 units constructed under NDC, according to the housing minister, were uninhabitable and a sum of roughly US$46 million is required to supply water, electricity, and storm drains.
