On Wednesday, six Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) students were placed in custody again.

The suspects were charged with raping an undergraduate.

The suspects were arraigned at the Asokore Mampong District Court before the latest development.

This is the second occasion that a student at KNUST has been accused of raping another student there.

After the hearing, the suspects’ attorney, Richard Adu Darko, told Accra-based TV3 that he believes his clients are innocent until they are found guilty by the court or enter a plea of guilty.

We honestly don’t see any evidence of rape in the facts that have been brought to us, but that is what they have been accused of, and once someone has been accused, the law states that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty or they enter a plea of not guilty.

Therefore, individuals are innocent until they enter a plea of guilty or a court of competent jurisdiction declares them guilty. They were brought to this court of the first instance at this time with the intention of being remanded into legal custody.

In the previous three weeks, there have been two incidents of this sort reported on the KNUST campus.

How a KNUST student and police officer gang-raped a female student

A KNUST student and a police officer stationed at Bomso were both detained last month on suspicion of gang-raping a school freshman.

A Level 400 Business Administration student named Joel Osei Owusu is accused of luring the girl to his room at Ultimate Hostel, previously Evandy Hostel, where he forcedly had sex with her.

The suspect recorded it using his cell phone while it was happening, according to police sources quoted by Nhyira FM.

Later, Joel called his friend into the room, who the victim strongly believed to be a police officer from the Bomso Police Station.

Additionally, according to allegations, General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku had intercourse with the woman against her will.

According to reports, the event happened on Tuesday, July 19, at about 2:30 pm.

The victim filed a complaint with the KNUST District CID two days later, and an inquiry was started.

Joel Osei-Owusu, the suspect, was apprehended at his hiding place by the police in coordination with the KNUST office of the Dean of Students.

During questioning, the suspect acknowledged having had sex with the complainant and named General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku as his partner.
