Ghanaians have received assurances from President Akufo-Addo that his administration will strike a favorable agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

He asserted that the NPP has a history of negotiating IMF agreements that are in the nation’s best interests.

“Our party has a history of helping Ghana overcome obstacles. When President Kufuor was in office, we removed Ghana from HIPC. We removed Ghana from the 2015 IMF program that had gone awry, he said.

At the National Delegates Conference of the NPP, which is now taking place at the Accra Sports Stadium, the President provided the guarantee.

The subject of the conference is “Holding together, Working together.”

A total of 47 individuals running for various posts in the National Convention are likely to receive more than 6,000 delegates’ votes.

The administration formally announced its plan to work with the IMF for financial assistance on July 5. Since then, a delegation from the Bretton Woods Institutions has evaluated whether the nation qualifies for the necessary assistance. Following a week-long conversation with members of the Economic Management Team, IMF officials expressed the Fund’s commitment to supporting Ghana in the appropriate manner.

While some observers praised the government for the audacious move, others mocked it for depressing the economy with wasteful spending. They said that if the government had reduced certain unnecessary spending, the use of the IMF could have been avoided.

But President Akufo-Addo assured the Ghanaian people that they would negotiate a favorable agreement with the IMF. a deal that would enable us to strengthen our economy even further than it was already and to continue doing so.

He added, “We will be in a position to not only negotiate but also put into effect a good arrangement. We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it once more.

“In doing so, the robust economy that we are going to establish is the economy that is going to give the basis for our triumph in 2024,” President Akufo-Addo pledged.

He urged the delegates to choose the men and women who can lead the party in “breaking the eight” in order to do so.

“Let’s make sure we choose candidates who can lead the party beyond our chant to break the eight, so let’s pick the men and women who can do it. And we’ll break the eight in 2024,” he declared.
