Delegates shouldn’t put their futures at risk – Kwabena Agyapong “joins” the NPP flagbearer race

Kwabena Agyepong

An unofficial declaration of Kwabena Agyapong’s willingness to run for the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2024 elections has been made by the former general secretary of the NPP, which is now in power.

Agyapong claimed that after his previous run for office in 2007, when the NPP assembled in Legon to choose John Agyekum Kufuor’s replacement, he had learned some important things.

On July 5, 2022, he stated on Accra-based Hello FM, “I came in about 14th or 15th in that race.” “I believe the approach was incorrect (before), but I am smarter now, and that is why I was able to overcome Sir John in Tamale,” the speaker said (to become General Secretary).

“I am going to use an even more superior strategy when nominations are opened,” he stressed and explained further that he will formally announce his bid when the party opens nominations.

“I want to play by the rules. The party has rules and regulations and I am someone who is eternally respectful of the rules and regulations of the party. I don’t support the idea of just anyone going round talking much, most importantly, we have national elections that will lead to a new national leadership,” he added.

When the national executive committee releases its program for the flagbearership election and open nomination, the former presidential spokesperson for John Agyekum Kufuor said, “then we shall see who is the guy in this town.”

“It is not about money, the delegates should not mortgage their future,” he said in response to the question of whether he had the funds to finance the campaign. The kinds of things I hear are not acceptable, they bring us into disgrace, and they do not represent the party’s essential values.

Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament from Assin Central, is the other candidate who has announced his candidacy. Others are rumored to be involved, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Trade and Agriculture Ministers Alan Kyerematen and Afriyie Akoto, respectively.
