The Chairman of Parliament’s Privileges Committee has ordered that Adwo Safo, a Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, be summoned to appear before the Committee for her absenteeism.
The Chairman claims that the action is in compliance with Article 103 (6) of the Constitution and Standing Order 205 of Parliament.
In a news statement dated June 14, 2022, the Director of Public Affairs in Parliament, Kate Addo (APR), stated, “This comes after all attempts by the Committee to reach the Honorable Member failed.”
“The summons are part of the Committee’s work, which was referred to it by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, pursuant to Article 97(1)(c) of the Constitution and Orders 15 and 16 (1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, for consideration and report to the House, on a member’s absence from Parliament for more than fifteen Sittings, without permission in writing to the Speaker, during the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eight Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia.
