The Government of Ghana has announced a major nationwide initiative to accelerate the construction and expansion of secondary school facilities. This strategic move is designed to accommodate the continuously rising student enrollment under the flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
Boosting Capacity Across Secondary Schools
Since the inception of the Free SHS infrastructure development program, educational institutions nationwide have experienced an unprecedented influx of students. To ease overcrowding in dormitories, classrooms, and dining halls, the Ministry of Education has prioritized the rapid completion of stalled projects alongside the commissioning of brand-new structures.
Speaking on the recent developments, education sector stakeholders noted that robust physical expansion remains critical to sustaining the high quality of secondary education. Schools in both urban and peri-urban centers are slated to receive multi-purpose science laboratories, computer hubs, and additional classroom blocks.
Commitment to Quality Education Delivery
Beyond building structures, the government is collaborating closely with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that newly opened facilities are fully equipped with modern learning aids and textbooks. Parents and teachers have welcomed these interventions, emphasizing that adequate infrastructure directly translates to better academic focus and holistic student development.
As the academic calendar progresses, monitoring teams have been dispatched across various regions to inspect ongoing projects and ensure that contractors deliver standard, durable facilities on schedule. The Ministry maintains that these continuous investments will safeguard the long-term success of secondary education in Ghana.
