Kwame Legend Calls for Kofi Kinaata’s Made in Taadi Concert to Move to Essipong Stadium

Entertainment commentator Kwame Legend has called on the organisers of Kofi Kinaata’s annual Made in Taadi Concert to consider the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong as the venue for upcoming editions, arguing that the event has grown beyond the capacity and limitations of traditional entertainment spaces in Sekondi-Takoradi.

In a recent facebook page, Kwame Legend described the Kofi Kinaata brand and the Made in Taadi Concert as well-established platforms that have gained significant recognition in the Western Region and beyond.

He believes the concert has reached a stage where hosting it at a stadium should be a serious consideration, particularly given the calibre of artistes who perform at the annual event and the large crowds it attracts.

According to him, the festival has become one of the major music events in the Western, Western North and Central regions, although he believes some people continue to underestimate its economic and entertainment impact.

Kwame Legend also challenged Team Moove, the management team behind Kofi Kinaata’s successes, to work harder towards expanding the concert’s reach and establishing its reputation as a major music festival.

Calls for a Change in Entertainment Culture

Addressing concerns raised in response to his earlier posts, Kwame Legend argued that Sekondi-Takoradi must move beyond the long-standing perception that successful entertainment events must be held around Market Circle or Beach Road.

He maintained that the city has evolved significantly since the early 2000s and should embrace a broader range of venues to accommodate the growing demand for major entertainment events.

He questioned why fans from communities such as Agona Nkwanta, Beahu and Inchaban could travel to attend events in the city, while similar journeys from Beposo and Axim were being considered a major obstacle.

He also cited the Asa Baako festival, which attracts visitors from different parts of the world, as an example of how an event can draw large crowds beyond its immediate location.

For him, the distance to the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong should not automatically disqualify the facility from hosting the Made in Taadi Concert, especially given the available space and road access.

Transportation Should Not Be a Barrier

Kwame Legend further argued that transportation challenges should not be used as a reason to reject the stadium proposal.

He pointed to the availability of ride-hailing services such as Uber, Bolt and other operators, alongside taxis, buses and trotros, as potential options for transporting concertgoers.

He also suggested that additional transport operators, including Yango, could consider operating in the city during the festive season to meet increased demand.

Reflecting on his experience at a previous event, he said he had spent more than an hour in traffic while travelling approximately one kilometre, describing the situation as frustrating and unsafe.

He therefore called for improved traffic management and transportation planning to ensure that major events can be held without placing unnecessary pressure on the city.

Security and Stadium Maintenance Concerns

On security, Kwame Legend maintained that the stadium could offer a more suitable environment than beach venues, provided the appropriate security personnel and arrangements were put in place.

He also dismissed concerns that the stadium should not be used for concerts because it underwent renovation not long ago.

According to him, the facility should serve multiple purposes beyond sporting activities, including concerts, festivals and other large-scale public events.

He argued that hosting major events could generate revenue to support the maintenance and continued operation of the stadium, rather than leaving the facility underutilised after public investment.

Kwame Legend further stressed that organisers should be held accountable for any damage caused to the facility. He noted that appropriate contractual conditions, security deposits and compensation arrangements could help protect the stadium and facilitate repairs when necessary.

Westside Carnival and Taadi Fest Could Benefit

Looking beyond the Made in Taadi Concert, Kwame Legend proposed that the stadium’s surrounding area could become a focal point for a wider programme of festive-season activities.

He suggested that events such as Westside Carnival, Taadi Fest and other music festivals could be organised within the same week or across a two-week period, potentially creating a more vibrant entertainment destination for residents and visitors.

The proposal, he believes, could help expand the city’s entertainment industry, encourage tourism and create opportunities for businesses and service providers during the festive season.

His comments come amid wider discussions about available development spaces in Sekondi-Takoradi, following recent remarks by the mayor suggesting that there are limited spaces left for earmarked development within the city.

Kwame Legend described the situation as unfortunate and argued that the city must be willing to explore and consistently utilise alternative locations rather than concentrating activities in a few established areas.

A Call for a Bigger Vision for Sekondi-Takoradi

Concluding his argument, Kwame Legend called on stakeholders, event organisers and residents to reconsider their approach to entertainment infrastructure and the use of public facilities.

He believes that with proper planning, transportation arrangements, security measures and responsible event management, the Sekondi Sports Stadium could become an important venue for the city’s growing entertainment industry.

While the proposal remains a call for consideration, its central message is clear: Sekondi-Takoradi must be willing to explore larger venues and new possibilities if it wants to strengthen its position as a major entertainment destination in Ghana.

“Sekondi-Takoradi Deserves Better Continues,” he concluded, using the hashtag to reinforce his call for a broader vision for the city’s future.
