From Battlefield Commander to Global Pop Megastar
Born into a distinguished military family with generations of service dating back to the 10th century, Blunt followed in his father’s footsteps. After studying aerospace manufacturing engineering and sociology at the University of Bristol, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Commissioned into the Life Guards, a regiment of the Household Cavalry, Blunt rose to the rank of Captain. In 1999, he deployed to Kosovo during the NATO peacekeeping mission, famously leading the troop of armored vehicles that secured the Priština airport. Remarkably, he carried his acoustic guitar strapped to the exterior of his tank, playing music for locals and fellow servicemen during downtime.
In 2002, Blunt left the British Army to pursue music full-time—a gamble that would pay off beyond his wildest imagination.
The Explosive Success of ‘Back to Bedlam’
After catching the ear of Linda Perry, former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman and veteran music producer, Blunt signed to her label, Custard Records. His debut studio album, Back to Bedlam (2004), catapulted him into the stratosphere.
Powered by the smash single “You’re Beautiful,” the album topped charts in over a dozen countries, went 11-times platinum in the UK, and became one of the fastest-selling albums of the decade. Blunt earned five Grammy Award nominations, two Brit Awards, and cemented his place as one of Britain’s most recognizable singer-songwriters.
