Ghanaian artist Darlington Agyekum, popularly known as Dr Cryme, has been elected as the Student Representative Council (SRC) President of Methodist University Ghana, Tema Campus, for the 2025/2026 academic year. The announcement, made on April 11, 2025, has sparked widespread celebration among fans and students alike, marking a significant milestone for the “Kill Me Shy” hitmaker.
Dr Cryme, a Business Administration student majoring in Management Studies, campaigned on a platform of transparency, accountability, and student welfare. His victory was confirmed through posts on social media, with the rapper sharing his gratitude on Facebook: “A big thank you to every MUG student who supported and participated, all celebrities, the media, friends, fans, family, well-wishers, and all supportive hearts. This win is definitely ‘for us by us.’” A video shared by journalist Ameyaw Debrah captured the artist celebrating on campus alongside supporters, including fellow musicians Stay Jay, Donzy Chaka, and Sarkodie’s manager, Angel Town.
The election places Dr Cryme among a growing list of Ghanaian musicians taking on student leadership roles, following in the footsteps of Samini, who became SRC President at GIMPA in 2022, and Guru, the current SRC President at the University of Ghana. Congratulatory messages have poured in, with rapper Captain Planet among those praising Dr Cryme’s achievement on social media.
Dr Cryme’s campaign emphasized improving academic support systems, enhancing student welfare, and advocating for campus infrastructure development. His win reflects his influence both as a musician and a student leader, blending his creative legacy with a commitment to transformative governance at Methodist University Ghana.
