The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially refuted claims suggesting that President John Dramani Mahama owns a luxurious Toyota Land Cruiser that recently went viral on social media. According to Eric Adjei, the Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC, the vehicle in question, a Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 Xtreme Edition, actually belongs to Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama, not the President himself.

This statement was made in response to widespread speculation and debate on social media platforms about the ownership of the high-end vehicle, which was spotted during a thanksgiving event at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). The vehicle, known for its bulletproof features, a 3.3L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine, and advanced terrain control systems, has an estimated value of over GHC8 million.

Adjei clarified during an interview with Nhyira FM that claims of the vehicle being state-sponsored or purchased by President Mahama’s administration are false. He emphasized the economic challenges facing the country, questioning how such a purchase could have been made given the financial constraints, including issues with debt and unpaid bills.

He stated, “… on record, President Mahama has not purchased any vehicle. We don’t even have a finance minister yet, so, where would he have gotten the money to purchase the vehicle? Students don’t have food to eat and IPP’s are demanding for debts to be settled, so, how can we buy a car? They are all lies started by the NPP on social media…”

This narrative counters the allegations and aims to set the record straight by distinguishing between the President’s possessions and those of his family members. The NDC’s response also serves as a rebuttal to what they describe as political propaganda spread by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to tarnish Mahama’s image.
