Celinda Levno, a veteran American Airlines flight attendant with nearly 40 years of service, was tragically killed in a series of stabbings in Denver, Colorado. The incident occurred during her layover in the city on the evening of January 11, 2025.
The attacks took place in the bustling area of the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. According to the Denver Police Department, the first call came in at around 5:12 p.m. at the intersection of 16th Street and Tremont. Levno, who was found at this location, was rushed to the hospital but passed away from her injuries the following morning.
Two additional stabbings occurred nearby on 16th Street at California Street and Lawrence Street, involving two men who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Levno, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, was identified by the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) in a somber announcement. She had begun her career with America West in 1989, which later merged with American Airlines.
The APFA’s statement read, “With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of Phoenix-based Flight Attendant Celinda Levno while on layover in Denver. Celinda began her career with America West in 1989.” It went on to highlight her passion for horses, painting a picture of her as more than just a flight attendant, but a beloved figure among her colleagues.
The statement also noted that in response to this tragedy, members of the Phoenix Inflight team would be temporarily moved to a hotel near Denver International Airport, although the stabbing incident itself was not associated with the layover hotel.
The Denver Police Department continues its investigation into these attacks, which appear to be unprovoked and random. The community, her colleagues, and the wider aviation industry mourn the loss of Celinda Levno, remembering her for her dedication and contributions to the field over her long career.
