West Palm Beach, Florida – Tragedy struck early Sunday morning in Downtown West Palm Beach when Melissa Carleen, a 25-year-old newly registered nurse, was killed in a pedestrian accident. The incident happened at approximately 3:25 a.m. on Banyan Boulevard at the intersection with Rosemary Avenue.
According to the West Palm Beach Police Department, Carleen and another pedestrian, a 33-year-old man from Royal Palm Beach, were crossing in the crosswalk when they were struck by a westbound Tesla. The driver of the Tesla had a green light at the time of the collision. Both were rushed to the hospital, where Carleen succumbed to her injuries. The male pedestrian is currently in serious condition post-surgery.
No criminal charges have been filed against the Tesla driver as of yet, as the investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.
Melissa Carleen had recently achieved her professional goal by becoming a Registered Nurse, having graduated from Southern Regional High School and completed her nursing courses in July.
