The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central, Baba Sadiq Abdulai, has strongly affirmed that the NDC will claim every seat they won in the recent elections within the 9th Parliament. In a video that has since gone viral, Baba Sadiq criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation efforts, which he claims unjustly overturned NDC victories.
Baba Sadiq was emphatic in his declaration, stating, “On December 6 or 5, not even the IGP, the CDS, or Nana Addo himself can prevent us. If Jean Mensa is minded, she will step down in Parliament on the 6th. We won the elections credibly.” He specifically warned several constituencies where the results were re-declared in favor of the NPP, highlighting that the NDC’s spirit of revolution would prevail, beginning on January 5.
He further dismissed any threats of imposing a state of emergency, saying, “Nobody can intimidate us with a state of emergency. Nana Akufo-Addo is outgoing. Dr. Bawumia has lost. The IGP has no locus. Jean Mensa cannot decide for Ghanaians who their MPs are. We worked hard for our victory, and every seat we won will be represented in Parliament.”
Re-Collation Controversy
The re-collation exercise conducted by the EC on December 21 at the Greater Accra Regional Office resulted in the following changes:
- Obuasi East: Samuel Aboagye (NDC) was initially declared the winner, but the seat was re-declared for Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (NPP).
- Tema Central: Ebi Bright (NDC) was initially announced victorious, but Charles Forson (NPP) was declared the winner after re-collation.
- Techiman South: Christopher Beyere Baasongti (NDC) lost his initial win to Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah (NPP).
- Okaikwei Central: Baba Sadiq Abdulai (NDC) saw his victory overturned in favor of Dr. Patrick Boamah (NPP).
Other constituencies where NPP candidates were declared winners post-re-collation include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, and Ahafo Ano North.
Undecided Constituencies
However, the situation in two constituencies remains unresolved:
- Ablekuma North: Ewurabena Aubynn (NDC) was declared the winner without accounting for results from 62 polling stations.
- Dome Kwabenya: Elikplim Akurugu (NDC) was declared the winner over Mike Oquaye Jnr. (NPP).
With these outcomes, if the NDC’s claims hold, they would secure 181 seats in Parliament, in addition to four independent candidates.
