Recollation of Results: Dafeamekpor Warns Afenyo-Markin of Political Consequences

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has issued a stark warning to Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin regarding the re-collation of parliamentary election results. Dafeamekpor criticized the NPP’s tactics and expressed his intent to hold the party accountable should the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assume power on January 7, 2025.

The contention arose after the Electoral Commission announced results for seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats in favor of the NPP following a High Court ruling. Dafeamekpor, in an interview with TV3 on December 21 during the re-collation at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office, accused Afenyo-Markin and the NPP of manipulating the process and disrespecting ongoing judicial proceedings.

He specifically targeted Afenyo-Markin’s comments made in a press conference, where the Majority Leader praised the EC’s outcomes despite the matter still being under Supreme Court review. Dafeamekpor expressed his frustration, stating:

“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the judicial process? Today [December 21], Afenyo is holding a press conference, praising the outcomes of exercises that are still pending before the Supreme Court. And then he tells me to accept it in good faith because we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not.”

Dafeamekpor further accused Afenyo-Markin of spreading falsehoods to justify the NPP’s actions, asserting that such tactics would not go unpunished under an NDC administration:

“Some of these falsehoods, Afenyo should desist from this conduct. He must stop concocting stories to embellish his press conferences. They may hold government positions now, but the real power has slipped from their grasp and is transitioning to us [NDC]. When we take over, we will demonstrate where true power lies.”
