Camrose, Alberta – Terry Ree, known for his role as the “Indian” in the comedic and musical duo Williams & Ree, has tragically passed away. The announcement was made by the Big Valley Jamboree, where the duo had frequently performed over the years, both in Camrose and at Country Thunder in Southern Alberta.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram, the Big Valley Jamboree expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear friend, Terry Ree, one half of the legendary comedy duo Williams and Ree. Terry’s humour, kindness, style, and unmistakable presence lit up every stage and brought endless laughter to so many. His legacy will forever remain in the joy he shared and the lives he touched.”
Ree, alongside his long-time partner Bruce Williams, formed the duo known as ‘The Indian and the White Guy’. They began their journey in the late 1960s at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Initially part of a band, their comedy sketches between songs quickly gained more traction than their music, propelling them into the spotlight.
Over the decades, Williams and Ree shared the stage with notable acts like Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Tim McGraw. Their television appearances included shows like “Country Kitchen”, “HeeHaw”, “Laff TV”, and “Comedy Central”.
The duo’s humor often revolved around the playful exploration of Native American stereotypes, with their official biography humorously noting that they “spin comedy gold from the union of a Plains Indian (Terry Ree) and a Western Angloid (Bruce Williams).”
