Abass Nurudeen, the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised serious concerns about the alleged misuse of public funds by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum , the outgoing Minister of Education, amidst Ghana’s political transition.

As the NDC prepares to assume office under President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, allegations of financial mismanagement are already surfacing. Nurudeen claims that there are plans to sponsor certain individuals on business class trips to the UK for holidays, which he describes as a blatant abuse of office and a misuse of public funds.

“These actions, if true, represent a blatant abuse of office, a misuse of public funds, and a betrayal of the trust Ghanaians placed in you,” Nurudeen stated, directing his strong words at Dr. Adutwum, who has served as Education Minister in the outgoing government.

Nurudeen emphasized that such actions, if proven, would be a gross violation of public trust. He reminded those in power that their positions are not personal privileges but public trusts. “Your primary duty is to serve the people of Ghana, not to advance personal or political interests,” he asserted, highlighting the ethical responsibilities of government officials.

These allegations come at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for a change in leadership. The NDC has vowed to restore integrity and transparency in government operations. Nurudeen’s accusations reflect deep concerns within the opposition party regarding the conduct of outgoing officials as the political landscape shifts.
