In a surprising turn of events, Emmanuel Samson, a teacher at Akropong Number One D/A JHS, candidly admitted to spending excess salary, saying, “Yes I chopped the money.”
This unexpected response brought intermittent giggles and laughter to the typically tense Public Accounts Committee hearing. Samson’s appearance before the committee to address the issue of overpayment of salary was marked by a mix of amusement and frustration among members.
Chairman James Klutse Avedzi’s question about his awareness of the excess payment at the time of receipt was met with Samson’s straightforward and humorous acknowledgment. The conversation took a lighthearted turn when Ranking Member Davis Ansah Opoku asked, “Like we say in our local settings, you have chopped the money? Mr. Samson, you have chopped the money?” to which Samson replied, “Yes, boss,” prompting the whole room to erupt in laughter once again. Despite the levity, the committee emphasized the importance of Samson repaying the excess amount by the end of August 2024, warning of consequences if he fails to do so.
